Wisdom teeth extractions
Adult teeth begin to erupt around the age of 6 and the third molars are the last to come out. Commonly known as wisdom teeth, they are located at the back of the mouth and usually show up in your late teens or early twenties. Normally there are four, it is not impossible to count fewer or more, or even none?!
The role of wisdom teeth
The food we eat is not as robust as it used to be because of the preparation we do with it, including cooking. Our chewing efforts are therefore less important and these teeth no longer have their raison d’être, from a functional point of view.
These teeth that are a problem…
By the time the wisdom teeth show up, all the others have already taken their place on the dental arch. It is not uncommon to see these completely embedded in the bone under the gum, or partially impacted under the gum. The lack of space is therefore a problem.
Possible complications:
- InfectionsWisdom teeth, our team of dental surgeons, has all the necessary expertise to effectively treat severe and other cases.
- Development of cysts
- Decay on adjacent teeth
- Pain
- Damage to the bone support of neighboring teeth
Is extraction essential?
Tooth extraction is done under local anesthesia and is performed as a preventive measure, or when a problem arises. The goal is to ensure optimal oral health. However, it is possible that the presence of wisdom teeth does not cause any problems. In this case, they will remain under observation and a possible extraction will be evaluated according to the evolution of the situation.
The decision to proceed with the extraction will be made as soon as possible. Wisdom teeth removed early are easier to remove and healing easier. When the extraction is performed in a younger patient, bone regeneration is larger and faster. Ideally, wisdom teeth should be extracted before the age of 30 when the decision to remove them is made as a preventive measure.
